We caught up with Andrew Scott, the owner of The Fruit Cube, to find out why he makes a point of giving back to organisations in his community. Bergzicht Training and Development recently received 30 boxes of fresh fruit from Scott, who also delivered it personally at our Stellenbosch campus.
Question: How did you hear about Bergzicht Training and Development and what made you decide to get involved with this NGO in particular?
Answer: We got to know the centre through my mother who volunteers there as a counsellor. We are incredibly impressed by the work that Bergzicht Training and Development does to change lives through skills training.
Q: Tell us more about your business and why you started it and how you feel you are able to help others through what you do for a living?
A: Started in 2014, The Fruit Cube offers a corporate fruit delivery service to businesses in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Paarl and Somerset West. As founders, we love knowing that we are making it easy for other businesses to support their staff in being healthy and active.
Q: Who was the person who instilled a culture of giving in your life and how do you feel that shaped you as a human being?
A: There are many, but without doubt my parents have had the most significant impact. They have instilled a strong sense of compassion in their three children.
Q: If you could change the world, what would be the one thing you would want to change or improve in this world?
A: We need to change the rampant culture of consumerism that dominates our society and our mindsets. We will all benefit by simplifying our lives and by finding satisfaction through means other than spending money on unnecessary goods and services.
Q: Why do you give to others and why would you encourage others to do the same?
A: There are many issues in this country that are in serious need of attention. We all know that we cannot always wait for our government institutions to address them rapidly enough. We all, as individuals, need to actively seek out opportunities to give to others in order to address these issues.
